About Dr. Umapathy Sundaram
Dr. Umapathy Sundaram, known as Uma, is a board-certified gastroenterologist, professor, and Senior Advisor to the President for Veterans Affairs and Translational Sciences at Marshall University. He combines clinical expertise, groundbreaking research, and academic leadership to advance patient care and mentor the next generation of medical professionals.
Uma earned his bioengineering degree from Johns Hopkins University, followed by medical school at the University of Toledo, and advanced training at Michigan and Yale. His research, supported by over $50 million in NIH and VA funding, focuses on inflammatory bowel disease, nutrient transport disorders, and translational gastroenterology, turning scientific discoveries into real-world medical solutions.
With over four decades of published research in leading scientific journals, Dr. Sundaram has made lasting contributions to the fields of gastroenterology and medical education.
